How to monetise your blog

Content, wordpress

I am working on a project to create a blogging information product for the beginner. Luckily enough I have an excellent Blogging PLR product which will be the main product. I am working on the additional products which I want to add to it. This will provide my customers with value that I think they deserve.

As part of this process I have subscribed to John Chow’s blog and as part of his subscription you get to download his ebook. eBook’s can be a double edged sword, if the person you are subscribing to is after you purely for listbuilding then you can have a lot of filler material that is put into the item you download.

I have skimmed through John’s ebook and I am very impressed. He gives you a lot of quality content which is easy to read and well laid out. I could easily identify what I was after in the ebook and will be going over the rest of the chapters in more detail.

He deals with all of the major items which are important in a blog such as content creation, monetising your blog using ad revenue like text link ads and Google Adsense. He covers topics relating to WordPress on how you should optimise your blog using SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), Blogging tips and customising WordPress.

These are only some of the topics he covers and to do justice to it means that I have to cover each chapter in detail. This could be a lengthy job but might be worthwhile as it would do 2 things. 1- I would definitely know blogging inside out as a technology/platform. 2 – I will also know how to monetise my blog in the most effective way.

The additional benefit will be that I will also then start questioning things which leads to better understanding of blogging and this will ensure that I pass the information on to my readers. Again this is something that can benefit my readers and customers in the future.

As part of my blogging experience I have been playing around with my plugins today. These are the ones I decided I need and wanted to not only monetise my blog but set it up in a fashion that will make it reader friendly and obviously SE valuable.

- Akismet – spam protection plugin
- SEO all in one plugin – Search Engine optimisation
- Google XML sitemap – creates sitemaps which are good for search engines
- Kontera Content link – Ad plugin thanks to John
- Text links Ad inlinks – another one on John’s list but I already was subscribed to them I just forgot I did it.
- Google Analyticator – links to Google analyzer account to provide stats for site

I was lloking at a the Google adsense plugin but was not happy with the configuration. This will be looked into in more detail to get it presented in a better way. I will be referring to John’s ebook again to update my knowledge.

Getting back to my Blogging product, all of this is covered in the DVD but as they say the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I am now consuming my own product to make sure when I offer it to my customers that I have full faith in the information I provide and the additional information I add to it will ensure that all of the aspects of blogging are understood and easily process.

I obviously will have to look at how the product will be presented and the graphics that go with it. I also want to make sure that when I or my customers have any questions that I can answer them quickly and informatively. This provides customers and readers with the comfort of someone knowing what they present is something they are knowledgeable about.

Doing this gives you a level of confidence and authority in dealing with anything relating to your topic or product. I have been neglecting my blog recently but that has been due to factors out of my control. I now plan to make it a regular feature. Once all of this is ready then I will be creating the squeeze page, landing page and all of the other back end pages to sell the product.

In the meantime I am happy doing some more reading to update my own knowledge and create some revenue out of my blog at the same time.
